Admit you have a problem. Recognize that your first and greatest sin is against God Himself. When we see the righteousness that belongs alone to God, we are brought to see ourselves in a true light. Only then can we pray in true repentance and confession.
When we come to God with our prayers of repentance and confession, we may feel ashamed and blush to even approach Him in our wretched condition. Because we don’t feel any differently, we may fear that He has not heard and responded to our requests for His mercy and forgiveness. But God does not keep His promises on the basis of our feelings. He already has given us His Word what His response will be when we come to Him for forgiveness. The answer is always Yes. Immediately.
