Archaeology and the Bible

Thursday-Saturday, 19-21 August 2010; 5:30 or 7:15 p.m. (see below)
This is a FREE, five session, multimedia mini-series.  Ron E.M. Clouzet (D.Min., Th.D.), right, is a Professor of Christian Ministry and Theology at Andrews University in Michigan and founder of H.O.P.E. University.  He has lectured extensively, in 50 countries on five continents, including the Bible lands of Israel, Egypt, Jordan, and Turkey.
Michael G. Hasel (Ph.D.), left, is curator of the Lynn Wood Museum of Archaeology, director of the Institute of Archaeology, and professor of Archaeology and Near Estern Studies at Southern Adventist University in Tennessee.  He has participated in many archaeological excavations and study tours in Israel, Jordan, Egypt, Cyprus, and Turkey.
Drs. Clouzet and Hasel will be speaking live at Southern Asia Seventh-day Adventist Church in Silver Spring, Md., and the event will be live-streamed to six area churches.  CMC is the only live-stream site in Washington, D.C.  (The other sites are Beltsville, Capitol Heights, Olney, and Silver Spring in Maryland and Vienna, Virginia.)  Here are the individual session descriptions:
Amazing Discoveries in Lost Cities of the Dead on Thursday, 19 August 2010, 7:15 p.m.  A tour-de-force through Egypt’s Valley of the Kings, the pyramids, and the mysteries of the mummies, incuding the thrilling discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamun.  Other Egyptian mysteries are revealed, such as the secrets of the Rosetta Stone, the Karnak Reliefs, and the amazing story of Hatshepsur, the adoptive mother of Moses.  You will see how archaeological data brings Bible stories to life.
Dead Men Do Tell Tales on Friday, 20 August 2010, 5:30 p.m.  An intriguing journey of Iraq’s ancient city of Babylon, its power and influence at the time.  You will explore what archaeology has discovered in the last 150 years, and how such discoveries have fulfilled 2,500 year-old prophecies from the books of Daniel, Isaiah, and Jeremiah.  [Refreshments afterward for those staying for second session.]
Fantastic Finds in Ancient Lands on Friday, 20 August 2010, 7:15 p.m.  An amazing survey of long-lost treasurers from Tyre, Hazor, Jericho, and other sites in Palestine, plus the intriguing discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls.  You will learn how these discoveries have revolutionized the world of Biblical archaeology.
In the Footsteps of Jesus on Saturday, 21 August 2010, 5:30 p.m.  A fascinating review of the Sea of Galilee, Caesarea Philippi, and the city of Jerusalem.  In addition, the gripping tale of Masada, and answers to claims made by Dan Brown and other writers about Jesus Christ.  You will be able to corroborate Bible claims in the light of recent findings.  [Refreshments afterward for those staying for second session.]
The Seven Churches of the Book of Revelation on Saturday, 21 August, 7:15 p.m.  This last journey will be to the Isle of Patmos, where the Apostle John received direct messages from God to the seven churches of Revelation.  Each city will be examined, seeking to understand each of God’s messages and their relevance to the 21st Century.

A COOKBOOK containing recipes from past IVFFs is now available.  Order Online Now!  More than 500 recipes, all from members of CMC, are included, along with a detailed glossary containing information on ingredients you may not yet be familiar with and where to find them.

For future reference, the IVFF is usually held every year on the third Sunday in May.  But please check back here for confirmation.
